Der hinzugefügte neunte Akkord kann aufgebaut werden, indem man einen Dur-Akkord nimmt und die neunte der Tonleiter hinzufügt. Es dient einem ähnlichen Zweck wie der Dur-Akkord, mit der zusätzlichen Erweiterung für Farbe oder Harmonisierung mit anderen Instrumenten.
