The melodic minor scale is constructed by taking the harmonic minor scale, and making it more melodic via a raised 6th degree. Relative to the natural minor scale, it has both raised 6th and 7th degrees. Note that this scale is most commonly played as the melodic minor scale when ascending, but as the natural minor scale when descending.
